OperationStirling Medical Innovations is a new start-up company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Inverness Medical Innovations, a leading global manufacturer of consumer and professional medial diagnostics products, and developer of advanced medical devices. Inverness Medical Innovations is headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, with operations located in several countries worldwide. The organisation provides diagnostic products for the over-the-counter market, as well as for the professional rapid diagnostic test market. These products are sold in over 90 countries worldwide. The decision to locate SMI at Stirling was announced on February 28th 2005. The project will involve an investment of £67.5 million of which £37.5 million will be funded by IMI and £30 million by ITI Life Sciences, www.itilifesciences.com, as part of ITI’s Cardiac Biomarkers and Near-patient Diagnostics R&D Programme. The Scottish Executive has approved a £3.8 million RSA grant.
